Old Glory Gym opened its doors in July 2016 with the sole purpose of providing the best possible coaching, programming, and facility in Loudoun County, Virginia. Owner Jason Sturm, a US Army veteran, and Pat Tillman Military Scholar fell in love with CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting in 2011 and began coaching at CrossFit Walter Reed in 2012. His passion for coaching athletes of all ages and fitness levels lead to the methodology behind all of our programs. Old Glory Gym is not just a fitness facility where you rent the use of equipment for the hour or two you’re in the gym, it’s a team of athletes, coaches and staff who view the best hour of their day spent sweating on the rubber flooring surrounded by weights, bars and kettlebells.

Old Glory Gym is conveniently located in Ashburn, Virginia, serving Loudoun County’s fitness needs. Whether you’re a lifelong athlete or a novice, we will ensure you are able to get the most out of your membership. Our fitness programs include CrossFit, WeightLifting (Powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting), Hardstyle Kettlebell, Youth Strength and Conditioning and Pilates. The community atmosphere fostered by our small-group training classes is a major factor in the success of our athletes, and keeps them coming back.

Jason Sturm
Jason SturmOwner & Coach

After being injured and medically retired from the US Army, I returned to my powerlifting roots until I discovered CrossFit in early 2011. I began crossfitting at Gold’s Gym and after several months, I joined my first box, CrossFit Reston. I immediately knew I wanted to coach and own my own gym.

In spring of 2012, I was introduced to CrossFit Walter Reed where I volunteered as a coach training our wounded service members and their caregivers until I took the Level 1 Certification Course in hopes of coaching full time. I began coaching at CrossFit Rubicon in August 2012 while I continued at CrossFit Walter Reed as Head Coach and Director of Operations.

In August 2013, I returned to school to pursue a degree in Kinesiology as a Pat Tillman Military Scholar. Shortly after completing my first semester, I left government contracting to coach full time. Since beginning to coach CrossFit, I have coached at 9 different gyms in the Washington DC metro area. In July 2016, My wife Rachel and I opened Old Glory Gym with the distinct goal of creating the best and most supportive possible facility and community for my athletes to exceed their personal goals. My personal belief is to give every athlete the tools and facility they need to surprise themselves someday. I want to motivate positive change in every athlete who steps in the door!

Alison Cooper

I am originally from Scotland and moved to the United States in August 2000 on a full volleyball scholarship to George Mason University. I competed on the Division 1 team that went to the NCAA finals in my senior year. For the past 13 years, I have been teaching P.E. to preschool through middle school children as well as taking on the role of Athletic Director.

In June 2016 I changed career to focus solely on coaching Crossfit. I began CrossFit in the spring of 2010 and it has benefitted me in so many ways. I’ve gotten stronger, healthier and met a wonderful group of friends. It is constantly challenging me to go outside my comfort zone and it has also given me a competitive outlet after college.

I competed in soccer, track, and wrestling growing up and was a South Carolina runner-up as a high school wrestler.  I also wrestled at the United State Naval Academy for two years.  After graduating, I served as a Naval Flight Officer for eight years and took up triathlons, adventure races, played in soccer leagues, and did anything to stay active and have fun.

In 2008, a friend introduced me to CrossFit and we started trying out some of WODs posted on the main site.  I quickly became fascinated with the challenge and have been doing CrossFit ever since.  I also continued to do triathlons and often went to the CrossFit Endurance website for training ideas.  I completed several Half Ironman distance events and also completed an Ironman before turning my focus more to weight lifting and CrossFit.  In 2011 I took the CrossFit Level 1 course and began coaching.  I have learned so much through CrossFit and love to share it with others.

I am originally from Brazil and moved to Miami 10 years ago. I moved to NOVA with my wife and am completing the hiring process with Fairfax Fire Dept. I started CrossFit in Miami 3 years ago. Of all hobbies and activities I’ve been a part of, this is the one I’ve dedicated the most amount of time and effort on.

The continuous improvement of myself and everybody around me helps me continue the hard work and seeing everybody moving forward is extremely fulfilling as an athlete and coach. It’s a great community to be a part of. I am currently attending the Arlington County Fire Academy.

I discovered CrossFit in 2012 shortly before retiring from CIA after a 33-year career. Despite starting CrossFit relatively late in life, I became enamored with the CrossFit approach to fitness and opted to split my post-retirement pursuits between management consulting and coaching.

I have been coaching CrossFit since December 2014. Active throughout my life, I played football and wrestled in college and transitioned to the less combative sports of tennis, biking, and running as I matured.

I started crossfitting in 2012 after many years at a local gym yielded underwhelming results. My first thought when walking into a CrossFit gym was that it wasn’t for me. I had never touched a barbell in my life. I soon learned that CrossFit is indeed for everyone. My favorite part of CrossFit is the community and support system it builds.

As a coach, my hope is to continue to educate others about living a healthy lifestyle, and to inspire people to reach their goals with a healthy body, mind, and spirit.

I spent two years crossfitting before I decided that I wanted to focus more exclusively on weightlifting. I have since competed in 4 local competitions, a regional competition in St. Louis where I competed against former Olympian Holley Mangold and I have trained under Bob Takano. CrossFit and Weightlifting have changed my life.

I started my fitness journey in college with traditional Okinawan karate, complemented with weight training, running, and yoga. These practices eventually led to Hardstyle Kettlebell training in 2008, and CrossFit in 2013.

My fascination with how the body moves led to a deep dive in training methodologies, movement patterns, and nutrition. As a coach, my primary goal is to help people striving for health and vitality by developing athleticism and fitness for real life. More than just being strong or fast — it’s about developing mobility along with strength, and sound biomechanics along with conditioning. My holistic approach to fitness also means talking about stress, sleep, and food, recognizing the fact that what we do outside the gym is even more important to fitness and health than what happens in the gym.

I started my fitness journey over 15 years ago after having 3 children. Having tried many different modes of exercise over the years(running, spinning, yoga, Pilates, TRX, pole dancing, kickboxing, and many hours of personal  training)

I felt that my fitness routine was not helping me achieve my goals.  CrossFit challenges me mentally and physically and brought out the physical changes I’ve been seeking.  With a great desire to empower people of all ages to live healthily and fit lives and having a background in behavior modification makes me very helpful and effective in developing new habits and overcoming limitations.  I feel that CrossFit helps me be the best representation of whom I am. I consider each workout a competition between the timer and myself.

I started doing CrossFit almost 8 years ago when I decided to make a drastic change in my life mentally and physically. After my initial ‘baseline’ (rude awakening) WOD with my friend and CFBB owner…I knew I was on the right path.

In December 2013 I started onto another positive path of becoming a CrossFit Affiliate manager at CFI. I have now been at Old Glory since July 2016. I offer administrative support to our coaches, staff, and athletes as well as assist with the daily operation of our facility.

Although I’m not a Crossfit coach at Old Glory, I still feel the positive impact CrossFit has had on my life, the lives around me and our Old Glory Gym community. Witnessing others change their lives for the better is the best part of my job! I also love sharing my enthusiasm and positivity to each and every person that crosses our threshold.

I am OGG’s Child care extraordinaire! I am always accompanied by Riley, my 2-year-old daughter, a wonderful, happy-go-lucky girl who also happens to be my assistant which makes working in the childcare room extra fun!

I have a background in working with children and families through my previous work as an in-home counselor, working as a childcare attendant at a previous gym and babysitting ever since I was 13 years old! I love kids so much that I am currently getting my masters of education in counseling and development at GMU, with the plan to become a school counselor!

I am a lover of CrossFit and have been crossfitting for over a year now, having been introduced through a family member. Riley and I hope to see you soon, as OGG has become our home away from home!

I grew up in Ashburn, VA where I competed in gymnastics and cheerleading through high school and continued cheering on the club team at Virginia Tech. I started going to a regular gym when I stopped cheering, but it wasn’t the same.

I missed having the coach and team that came with other sports. CrossFit and its community filled that gap immediately. I was first introduced to CrossFit in September 2014. I started as an intern at CrossFit Blacksburg for college credit. After a few weeks of watching from the sidelines, I participated in my first class and was hooked immediately.  Since then, I have graduated from Virginia Tech and am attending George Washington University in pursuit of a B.S. in Nursing.
